Movie Research: The Babadook

What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?

- The Babadook incorporates elements such as psychological horror, supernatural entities, and the exploration of repressed emotions. It utilizes suspense and tension to create a sense of unease, making the viewer question what is real and what is imagined. The film also examines the impact of grief and loss, adding emotional depth to the horror.

What conventions of the genre did the movie have that you liked?

- I appreciated the psychological aspect of The Babadook, where the horror stemmed from the internal struggles of the characters. The film effectively blurred the lines between reality and nightmare, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats. The exploration of psychological trauma and the portrayal of authentic human emotions were aspects that resonated with me.

What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you and you are thinking of not filming for your final task?

- One convention in The Babadook that I am considering not utilizing in my final task is the depiction of extreme and disturbing violence. While the film's graphic content added to the overall atmosphere, I want to focus more on psychological horror and subtle scares without relying on explicit violence in my own work.
