Genre Decision Blog: Why I Chose Horror as My Final Task for High School
As a high school student, there are numerous genres to explore for a final task, but I have chosen horror as my primary focus. Horror has always fascinated me, with its ability to evoke intense emotions and explore the darker aspects of human nature. It ignites my curiosity and pushes me to delve deeper into the psychological and suspenseful elements of storytelling. It challenges me as a creator to think outside the box and craft a memorable and thought-provoking piece of work that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Creating an effective horror piece requires mastering various filmmaking techniques—such as lighting, sound design, and editing—to build tension and create a chilling atmosphere. This challenge excites me and motivates me to expand my technical skills. Horror has the power to evoke strong emotional responses in audience's feelings of fear, anxiety, and suspense. Through my final task, I aim to explore these emotions and analyze how horror films tap into our deepest fears and anxieties. Horror films often reflect the fears and concerns of society, allowing me to explore and analyze the themes and underlying messages within the genre. It provides an opportunity to engage in discussions about social issues and address universal human experiences. Horror filmmaking offers endless possibilities for creativity. From creating unique monsters to designing mysterious settings, it allows for collaboration with fellow students and helps foster teamwork and creative problem-solving skills. Impactful Visuals: Horror films often feature visually stunning and visceral imagery that leaves a lasting impression. Whether it's through practical effects or innovative visual techniques, the visual aspect of horror storytelling provides an exciting challenge to explore for my final task.
